Synchronous Neural Interactions Study
Gulf War Illness study: Magnetoencephalography Synchronous Neural Interactions test in GW Veterans
Objectives: To use brain imaging (magnetoencephalography) to better understand brain function in veterans with and without symptoms of
Gulf War Illness.
Research plan and methods: Veterans who served in Operation Desert Storm (ODS) will be invited to complete physical and mental health assessments and undergo
MEGis a quick, noninvasive brain imaging technique that permits researchers to examine activity on the surface of the brain.
Progress: To date, more than 250 Gulf War veterans have participated in this ongoing study. Although our approach does not yet provide individual results, preliminary results have enabled us to accurately classify more than 90% of veterans based on their brain scans.
